Laboratory visits, lectures, campus tours on the grounds of the University Hospital Bonn and many occasions to exchange ideas – this is what the program prepared by the Vice Dean’s Office for International Affairs and Career Development of the Faculty of Medicine Bonn offered. “It was a pleasure to host the students and Faculty from Tongji University over these days. We had a valuable opportunity to exchange insights about medical education programs and training in both universities”, says Prof. Dr Carmen Ruiz de Almodóvar, Vice Dean for International Affairs and Career Development, “the interaction with some of our medical students, who took part in lunches and dinners, were especially enriching”.
Joint research focuses connect the faculties
A regular exchange between the medical faculties is of interest, especially as they have similar research focuses, such as cardiology, oncology and neurosciences. The program of the delegation’s visit also centred on these areas, including a tour of the radiotherapy outpatient clinic, a visit to the NeuroTechEU symposium, and the participation in talks of the PhD Summer School of Bonn International Graduate School (BIGS) Neuroscience.
Return visit to Shanghai planned for summer
The idea of establishing closer contact and a delegation visit to Bonn came about last year when the Dean of the Faculty of Medicine in Bonn, Prof Bernd Weber, and Prof Bernd Fleischmann from the Institute of Physiology I followed an invitation to attend a summer school at Tongji University. The summer school is part of the Sino-German Experimental Program, in which lecturers from Germany teach in Shanghai and an exchange with German hospitals is envisioned. In August, some medical students and professors from the faculty of Bonn travel to Shanghai to participate in this year’s summer school.
Focus on internationalisation
The Faculty of Medicine at the University of Bonn attributes great importance to international contacts. In recent years, it has specifically promoted activities in order to maintain its international reknown status.
