The ranking is the University of Bonn's best result since the World University Rankings was established - at 89th place, it is ahead of several other renowned universities, including the FU Berlin (91st), RWTH Aachen (99th) and the Sorbonne Paris (90th). With its seventh place nationwide, it has improved its position in Germany by three places. Within the EU, the University of Bonn ranks 17th.

"The ranking impressively shows that the University of Bonn is one of the best-performing universities in Europe and the world," says Rector Prof. Dr. Dr. h.c. Michael Hoch. "Our pleasure is all the greater because the result joins the analysis that we have not only been able to further establish our position, but have even been able to decisively improve it once again in the face of tough international competition. A great confirmation and an enormous tailwind for the further implementation of our future strategy."

Across Germany, the University of Bonn landed in the top 8 in four of the five categories - in the category of scientific citations, it performed best by far. The strongest improvements compared to last year were in the categories of teaching and research. For the teaching category, factors included the reputation of academic teaching, the number of doctoral degrees and the supervision ratio. For the research category, scientific publications, research income and the reputation of research were evaluated.

Worldwide, the University of Oxford (UK) leads the ranking, followed by the two US universities California Institute of Technology/Caltech and Harvard.
