Graduation ceremony

What is the University Festival?

The University Festival is a central celebration for graduates of all faculties at the University of Bonn. More detailed information about the schedule, venue, and other conditions of participation can be found here.

The University of Bonn was the first major traditional German university to introduce this festival as an expression of a new university culture of community and partnership. We want the numerous contacts and friendships you have made during your time in Bonn to continue and grow rather than end when you finish your studies.
Since July 9, 2005, the Bonn University Festival has been an integral part of our university culture and the city of Bonn.

Graduates of the Faculty of Medicine also receive a decorative certificate from the dean and the dean of studies in a solemn and dignified ceremony, followed by the traditional hat-throwing ceremony with graduates from all faculties.

Who can participate?

Graduates of the Medical Faculty of Bonn include all graduates of human medicine, dentistry, the bachelor's program in midwifery, and the master's programs in neurosciences, medical immunosciences and infection, and global health - risk management and hygiene policies.

Anyone who has received a degree by the current academic year shortly before the graduation ceremony is eligible to participate. This means that graduates from previous years can also participate in the graduation ceremony if they have not yet participated in the graduation ceremony by the current graduation year. However, the degree must not be more than five years old. Final eligibility to participate in the graduation ceremony will be determined after confirmation and approval by the relevant examination offices in mid- to late June. Participating graduates do not need to be enrolled at the University of Bonn at the time of the event.

Student consulting

Student councils of the Faculty of Medicine

Our student councils offer information and support from a student perspective. They are particularly important points of contact for first-year students, as their activities at the start of the academic year provide a good opportunity to make initial contacts and familiarize oneself with the academic environment. Many student councils offer study guides, arrange language tandems and learning partnerships, and organize subject-related excursions.

General Student Committee (AStA)

In addition to political representation, counseling and service are the main tasks of the AStA. The services offered cover many different areas: BAföG counseling, counseling for students with children, social and legal counseling, counseling for foreign students, counseling in the Queer Department—at the AStA, students can find advice and help for almost any concern.
