In the following, you will find an overview of the area of internal performance-oriented funding, our activities in the area of research communication, our tasks in the area of departmental management, as well as information and contacts regarding research data management.

If you have any questions or need information on a topic that is not explained on our pages, just write to us at forschung@ukbonn.de.

Internal performance-oriented allocation of funds (LOM)

The Bonn Medical Faculty bases its internal resource allocation on the rules of the state of NRW. In NRW, the performance in teaching and research and the implementation of the State Equal Opportunity Act are included in the evaluation. Research performance is assessed, among other things, on the basis of third-party funding expenditures and published papers.

Further information on publication-based allocation as well as training materials on how to use the publication database EvalunaBiblio can be found on the UKB intranet (only accessible from the UKB network). Otherwise, please do not hesitate to contact us directly.

Research Communication

Communication of scientific knowledge and scientific work is an essential part of the scientific system. At the Medical Faculty, we communicate research results and methods both within and outside the scientific community.
In the life cycle of a scientific project, there are many stages at which science communication can appear: when submitting an application for external funding, when preparing a press release for an upcoming publication or when creating the institute's own website.

The Communication Team is happy to advise all members of the Medical Faculty on communication issues. Please contact us at an early stage: Team Communication

Medical Faculty Offerings:

  • Support in the preparation of a press release on research and teaching topics
  • Advice for applicants of third-party funding on communication measures
  • Support and advice in creating the institute's own homepage on Plone5
  • Advice on the planning of communication measures
  • in-house workshops for science communication, social media and public relations

Other contacts for communication inquiries are the
University Communications Department (Dezernat 8) of the University of Bonn and the Corporate Communications Department of the University Hospital Bonn.

Research Data Management

The University of Bonn is committed to complying with the DFG Code of Conduct "Guidelines for Ensuring Good Scientific Practice" (Official Announcement 51/13). The commitment to and compliance with this code is now a requirement for funding by the DFG and numerous other third-party funded institutions.

Thus, all scientific employees of the University of Bonn commit themselves to the careful documentation of research activities (Guideline 12) and to the comprehensive archiving of research results (Guideline 17).

The exact scope of the requirements for documentation and archiving can be found in the guidelines. Generally, however, the FAIR principles must be adhered to when safeguarding research data: Data must be findable, accessible, interoperable, and reusable using standard methods and documentation.

Offers of the Medical Faculty

Storage space for personal scientific use is provided by the Coordination Office for Scientific Infrastructure (KWI) at the Dean's Office of the Medical Faculty. The KWI manages the existing storage infrastructure, allocates the corresponding capacities and explains how scientists can gain access to them.

In case of collaborative projects, larger capacities can also be applied for at the IT commission of the faculty. In addition, there is a FAQ forum on the intranet, where answers to frequently asked questions can be found and where you can ask your own questions about research data management.

Research Data Service Center

The Service Agency for Research Data is a central institution of the University of Bonn and offers scientists of all faculties support in research data management throughout the entire research process. This includes advice on project planning, implementation and completion. In addition, the Service Agency offers information on subject-specific aspects and external repositories.

Data Management Plan (DMP)

Data management plans are increasingly becoming a prerequisite for applying for collaborative projects at the DFG and other funding institutions. However, in order to create a DMP suitable for the planned project, it is necessary to know both the local infrastructure and the project-specific data requirements. For this reason, the Service Agency Research Data has developed the Research Data Management Organizer (RDMO). The RDMO is intended to help applicants to create customized data management plans according to specific requirements, e.g. in order to meet the guidelines of third-party funding bodies.

In case of questions and for support in the creation of the DMP, the Service Agency Research Data also offers a DMP service. For questions specific to the structures at the Medical Faculty, please contact the Bonn Technology Campus Life Sciences.
