Welcome to the Clinic Hompepage of the Dentistry program

Pre-clinical students and those in the first stage of their studies can find all the information they need here.

In the clinical stage of their studies, students can expect qualified lecturers and innovative, interdisciplinary teaching. They have access to modern technical equipment for interdisciplinary patient treatment. Thanks to teaching formats developed as part of the new study and examination regulations, such as clinical traineeships and elective II, the program will become even more practical and versatile in the future.

An interprofessional program management team has been available since 2019 to assist with program organization and general student counseling.

The Examination Office is your point of contact for the implementation/administration of state examinations (old study and examination regulations) and the reorganization of state examinations in accordance with the new study and examination regulations.

Structure of the clinical section according to the old studies and examination regulations

In the clinical study section, skills in all sub-disciplines of dentistry are developed, expanded, and complemented. In addition, students are introduced to medical basics over the course of several semesters. Social science subjects such as the history of medicine and professional studies are also included.

In the sixth semester, students are introduced to advanced treatment techniques on phantom heads, both practically and theoretically. Students also expand their skills in the surgical field and acquire abilities and skills in the field of radiology, which are completed in the 10th semester. In addition, courses in pharmacology, toxicology, and hygiene for dentists must be taken.

Integrated treatment courses take place in semesters 7 to 10. In interdisciplinary courses, students treat patients independently under the supervision of experienced teaching staff. Internships, lectures, and seminars on orthodontics and surgery must also be taken. Core medical subjects include dermatology, internal medicine, and general and special pathology.

Structure of the 1st and 2nd section of studies according to the new studies and examination regulations

The second stage of the program covers the fifth and sixth semesters. It concludes with the second part of the dental examination (Z2). The focus of this stage lies on treatment simulation using phantom heads as preparation for treating patients. Students are to take courses in the following areas: prosthetics, orthodontics, tooth preservation, and dental surgery. The radiology internship and the seminar “Dentist-Patient Communication II” must also be completed.

The third stage of the program covers semesters 7 to 10. It concludes with the third part of the dental examination (Z3). This stage of the program focuses on independent diagnosis and treatment of patients in integrated treatment courses. Furthermore, human medicine skills are deepened and interdisciplinary subject areas are didactically interlinked in cross-sectional subjects. Individualized qualification enhancement also takes place through elective subject II and the completion of communication skills in the seminar “Dentist-Patient Communication III.”

The new ZApprO requires all dental students to complete clinical traineeships with practicing dentists. These internships must be completed after the first state examination (Z1) in the preclinical and clinical stages of study over a total period of four weeks. At least half of the clinical traineeship must be completed with dentists in general dental practices. Proof of the clinicaltraineeship must be provided by the third stage of the dental examination.

Elective II is a compulsory course in the third stage of study. The courses offered are announced by the Vice Dean for Teaching and Studies before the semester begins. The courses must comprise at least 2 semester hours per week (SWS) and are graded. The program management team is your point of contact. Further information will follow.
