Dr. med. Hannah Asperger

Dr. Hannah Asperger is a resident at the Center for Neurology and a clinician-scientist affiliated with the German Center for Neurodegenerative Diseases (DZNE). As a Neuro-aCSis fellow, she works at the interface of cerebrovascular and neurodegenerative diseases.

Her project focuses on the proteomic profiling of blood and cerebrospinal fluid to identify disease-specific biomarkers for cerebral amyloid angiopathy (CAA). The goal is to define molecular signatures that enable a more precise characterization and differentiation of CAA-related pathology from Alzheimer-type pathology, particularly in clinically and radiologically overlapping settings. Mass spectrometry-based proteomic analyses are conducted in close collaboration with the laboratory of Prof. Felix Meissner at the Institute of Innate Immunity, with active integration into the proteomics research team, and are combined with clinical, imaging, and neuropsychological data.

Overall, the project aims to advance blood-based biomarker approaches for improved diagnosis, risk stratification, and translation into clinical practice.
