Researchers, staff from patient care, administration, and teaching, as well as students, gathered for the annual Sustainability Assembly in the DZNE lecture hall at the University Hospital Bonn (UKB) to discuss the sustainable transformation of the university and hospital.
At the center of the event — organized annually by the Vice Dean’s Office for Scientific Infrastructure and Sustainability in close collaboration with UKB — were projects funded by the sustainability commission's grant program under the Vice Dean’s Office.
Topics included sustainability in laboratories, greener blood donation, and the use of exercise equipment in the workplace for energy generation. The student perspective was also closely examined, emphasizing the value of incorporating environmental and sustainability topics as a permanent part of the curriculum.
In a subsequent interdisciplinary exchange on various sustainability-related areas — patient care, administration, research, and education — participants had the opportunity to voice their thoughts, collect ideas, and further network. A vegan catering service rounded off the program.
Once again this year, it became clear that regularly discussing sustainability and fostering engagement is essential for the ongoing sustainable development of the university and UKB — and it is achievable in every area of work.
At this point, the Vice Dean’s Office for Sustainability extends a heartfelt thank you to all participants and interested parties, and looks forward to welcoming you again next year!
