The NGS Core Facility Bonn provides high-quality next-generation sequencing services and expert support for research projects across biomedical and life sciences. As part of the West German Genome Center (WGGC) and the national NGS competence network, the facility plays a key role in advancing collaborative, large-scale genomics research in Germany.

Beyond serving as a critical infrastructure for the local research community, the NGS Core Facility Bonn plays a pivotal role national sequencing initiatives.
The NGS Core Facility Bonn is a member of the of the West German Genome Center (WGGC) — one of four national NGS Competence Centers funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG) and an active member of the national NGS competence network (NGS CN).
In this capacity, the facility has successfully completed high-throughput sequencing for over 26 DFG-funded large-scale NGS projects, and maintains close, strategic partnerships with its WGGC sister sites at the Universities Cologne, Düsseldorf, and Aachen.
The NGS Core Facility Bonn is also actively involved in method development, benchmarking, and contributes to various special interest groups within the NGS CN driving the advancement and standardization of NGS technologies across Germany.
Following five years of DFG funding (2019–2023), the facility is currently supported by the Ministry of Culture and Science (MKW) of North Rhine-Westphalia, ensuring continued excellence in sequencing services and collaborative research.
