Dr. Dr. med. Sergio Castro-Gomez (MD-PhD)

Sergio Castro-Gomez studied medicine at the Universities of Antioquia (Medellín – Colombia) and Hamburg and received his MD-PhD at the University of Hamburg. He has worked in general medicine, neurology, and basic neuroscience with particular emphasis on molecular mechanisms of cognition, neuroinflammation, and neurodegenerative diseases. In addition, he is currently a group leader at the Institute of Physiology II and a resident in the Department of Neurodegenerative Diseases / Neurology. He focuses on the research of biomarkers for neurodegenerative diseases and neuroimmunological mechanisms after brain injury and in neurodegeneration.

Expertise: Clinical research, molecular and cellular biology, 2 Photon laser microscopy, behavioral biology, animal models.
