Teaching practical skills

Skillslab

We not only talk about medicine but also put it into practice.
By simulating a setting that is as close to reality as possible, we reflect the future field of activity.

Our aim is to optimize the preparation of all medical students for internships, clinical traineeships, final year placements and clinical deployment as a junior doctor.

Interprofessional teaching - an example: IPSTA

Joint learning and action by future doctors and healthcare and nursing trainees

The IPSTA project enables joint learning in practice. In terms of content, we focus on self-management, responsibility and interprofessional collaboration.

Taking a medical history, making a diagnosis, planning and carrying out treatment. What is normally done by experienced doctors and nurses is done at IPSTA by a team of medical students and nursing trainees - under the intensive supervision of experienced medical and nursing learning guides.

Curriculum development

Changing pressures, expectations and structures in our society, as well as developments within the healthcare system, are constantly placing new demands on future doctors. The influence of digitalization, the immense increase in knowledge in medicine and the options that change almost daily also influence expectations of the medical profession. We are convinced that these challenges must be taken into account and specifically addressed during medical training. 01.

Bonn Longitudinal Curriculum Communication (BonnKomm)

Everyday medical work is accompanied by a wide variety of conversational situations that require a high level of communicative and social skills. The direct linking of theoretical knowledge with practical training units enables experience-based learning and promotes personal development.

02.

Simulation Person Program (SPP)

Our program is geared towards the students' own actions in the various treatment situations. With the help of simulation discussions in particular, students can learn from their own experiences in a protected space and expand their communication skills.

03.

Interprofessional teaching

Cooperation between different healthcare professions is essential for good patient care. In order for communication and cooperation in interprofessional teams to succeed, future specialists should ideally learn the necessary skills and competencies during their training. After all, cooperation in interprofessional teams only works if they work together on the basis of a common understanding.

Occupational health and safety, hygiene, patient safety and law - these four areas form the content of the interdisciplinary teaching project in medical studies and serve to protect both the future doctor's own health and that of the patient.
